At the 2004 Fall Forum of the American Association of Feline Practitioners in San Francisco, two lectures and a roundtable discussion were presented on zoonotic diseases of cats in general and more specifically Bartonella spp. associated diseases. It was noted at that time that an obvious consensus had not been reached for many issues concerning Bartonella spp. infections of cats. Subsequently, in the summer of 2005, the AAFP Guidelines Committee decided to convene a panel of interested individuals to develop a Panel Report on the topic.

This report was printed in the August 2006 issue (Vol 8, Issue 4, pp. 213-226) of the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery.
