The purpose of this webinar is to highlight and expand upon the detailed information provided on feline anesthesia in the AAFP’s Feline Anesthesia Guidelines. Feline anesthesia-related morbidity and mortality risk factors will be discussed and strategies to help mitigate these risks will be presented. Case examples will be used to illustrate common challenges and opportunities in feline anesthesia.

Speaker Bios
Susan Gogolski DVM, PMP, DABVP (Canine/Feline)
Dr. Gogolski graduated from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1985. Following graduation, Dr. Gogolski moved to Idaho where she owned and operated a small animal veterinary practice for five years. Since then Dr. Gogolski has practiced in a variety of different practice settings from Emergency and Critical Care to Feline Specialty hospitals. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) in canine and feline practice. Dr. Gogolski co-chaired AAFP’s Feline Anesthesia Guidelines and is a former AAFP Board member. She holds leadership roles in multiple veterinary organizations such as the Vice Chair of ABVP credentialing for Canine and Feline practice and the Vice Chair of the Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG).
Dr. Gogolski is currently an instructor, supervisor, and principal investigator for two research projects in the Department of Veterinary Science at the Army Medical Department Center and School in addition to providing small animal relief services to the San Antonio metro area. She is a dedicated veterinarian who consistently strives to provide practitioners with cutting edge information so that they can provide outstanding care to their feline patients.
Heidi Shafford, DVM, PhD, DACVAA
Originally from Alaska, Dr. Heidi Shafford obtained her DVM from Colorado State University in 2000. As a veterinary student she discovered her passion for anesthesia and pain management. Following residency and graduate training in veterinary anesthesiology and physiology at the University of Missouri, she attained board-certification by the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia in 2005.
Dr. Shafford is dedicated to improving anesthesia safety and patient comfort. In 2007, Dr. Shafford established Veterinary Anesthesia Specialists, LLC, based in Portland, Oregon. She anesthetizes patients in the Portland area, leads in-clinic workshops for teams, and lectures extensively to veterinary professionals nationwide. A devoted cat owner, she is passionate about minimizing stress and maximizing comfort for feline patients.
