My tenure as President of the AAFP is off to a great start. I hope everyone is enjoying 2016, and that we are all seeing more cats in our practices!
On the AAFP news front, I have several items to share. First, we recently held our new Feline Practice Management meeting in Lake Tahoe. We had a large number of attendees, including associate and owner veterinarians, as well as practice managers. Our speakers, Dr. Karen Felsted and Eric Garcia, were excellent and provided lots of very practical and useful information to take back to our practices. No one complained about the beautiful Lake Tahoe setting either! The Proceedings Notes will be posted in the Member Center in June, so be sure to check them out!
Our new AAFP Hyperthyroidism Guidelines will be published this spring in the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery. See the preview of these guidelines in this issue of the Scratching Post!
Our Executive Director, Heather O’Steen, management staff, and our AAFP 2016 Conference Task Force continues its hard work putting together a terrific program for our annual meeting November 3-6, 2016 in Washington, DC. The topics are Feline Behavior and Respiratory Disease, and we already have a very seasoned group of speakers lined up. Click here for more information and mark your calendars. You can view some of the speakers and session topics under Educational Program. We also have a great Pre-Conference ABVP/AAFP program set up with Dr. Alice Wolf as our speaker. Registration for both the pre-conference and general conference sessions will open in June.
Lastly, our JFMS Open Reports is off to a fast and furious start, with more articles being submitted than we initially anticipated. Launched in May of 2015, the JFMS Open Reports is an international, online, peer reviewed, open access journal publishing the best clinical and case reports in feline medicine and surgery. The JFMS Open Resports can be accessed here.
