Big changes are coming to the JFMS and AAFP Member benefits. The JFMS is shifting to open access starting in 2023. To accompany the change of the JFMS to open access, we are launching a suite of new members benefits starting in late 2022 with a brand-new member magazine.
For years, the JFMS has been the key publication relied upon by veterinarians to deliver the latest cutting-edge scientific research, premier reviews, and clinical case studies to improve feline medicine and welfare. In January 2023, the JFMS will move to an open-access format, providing the entire global veterinary community a free, online resource that will advance the collective feline medical and scientific knowledge.
With this change, the JFMS will cease to print the monthly Journal as of January 2023. Instead, articles will be published online as soon as they have gone through the peer-review process and are accepted for publication. This change allows for swift dissemination of the latest scientific research to you and the global community and allows the JFMS to continue its mission of being the authority resource for feline medicine and welfare in a rapidly changing world. We are committed to maintaining the highest quality of published papers and, along with the ISFM, will continue to invest in producing Clinical Practice-style articles.
With the move of JFMS to open access, the AAFP recognizes that many of our members will miss receiving a printed publication with feline information and news. That is why we are excited to announce a suite of new member offerings that expands our content delivery of the best in feline medicine to you! Take a look below and learn more about these upcoming offerings exclusively for AAFP Members:

It will include a short abstract summary of the most practical articles provided by Margie Scherk, DVM, DABVP (Feline), JFMS co-editor, which is delivered right to your inbox so you don’t have to go searching online each month. Additional supplemental content will be included such as video or podcast interviews with the authors, which will allow you to take an even deeper dive into the content.
- AAFP Podcast Channel – Don’t have time to read articles, but still want to hear about the latest in feline medicine? The AAFP will be launching a new Podcast Channel available to AAFP members where you can listen at your leisure to feline experts on a myriad of topics. There will also be opportunities for members to submit questions to the experts before the podcast is recorded in order to answer your questions.
- Guideline Implementation Tools – The AAFP is renowned for its feline practice guidelines. However, we know that many of these guidelines are dense publications and it can be hard to quickly distill practical application to utilize in daily practice. These new member tools will help highlight the primary takeaways from the guidelines, showcase how to practically apply them to improve feline care, and provide you with quick-reference resources.
- Members-only Discounts – a platform will be available through our enhanced 2023 Member Center that provides AAFP Members with discounts on products and services for personal use.
Additionally, in 2022 AAFP Members will receive a significant discount to the Spring into Feline Medicine eConference, reduced rates for the Annual Conference which will once again be a hybrid meeting, new feline-specific webinar CE, and a member preview to the new Cat Friendly Veterinary Interaction Guidelines and Cat Friendly Veterinary Environment Guidelines which will be published in November.
