The FelineVMA Student Representative to the Board of Directors is an exciting opportunity to bring the student perspective to our leadership and build valuable connections!
Why a Student Representative?
The FelineVMA is committed to enhancing feline education to current and future veterinary professionals. The FelineVMA leadership has dedicated resources to expand the awareness and reach of its resources to students in veterinary and veterinary technician schools, in the form of the Student Chapters of the FelineVMA, the formation of the Student Engagement Committee, and the creation of a Student Representative to the FelineVMA Board position. The ideal candidate will be passionate about feline medicine, interested in leadership, interested in collaborating and providing feedback to the FelineVMA Board, and able to meet the criteria listed below.
The Student Representative will:
- Provide the students’ perspective during meetings of the FelineVMA leadership.
- Champion the FelineVMA’s efforts to bring feline education to students, including the creation of Student Chapters of the FelineVMA.
- Share ideas to help the FelineVMA meet its strategic goals.
Criteria for Student Representative Candidates:
- Must be a second- or third-year veterinary student.
- Have the time to attend and participate in all the meetings below.
- Must be a FelineVMA Student Member.
Student Representative Role Description
The FelineVMA Board of Directors created a Student Representative for the Board position in 2022. The tenure of the position is for one (1) calendar year (January-December). During that year, the Student Representative is expected to:
- Attend four to five Board of Directors Meetings (two in-person; a three-day meeting from February 7-9, 2025, and one prior to the Annual Conference on the afternoon of September 17, 2025; travel expenses to be paid according to FelineVMA Policy). Training or strategic planning may be involved during one of the meetings.
- Attend 2-4 Student Engagement Committee Meetings (Virtual, unless one is held at the FelineVMA Annual Conference).
- Receive complimentary registration to the FelineVMA Annual Conference (travel expenses to be paid according to FelineVMA Policy and in conjunction with the Board Meeting the Wednesday prior to the Annual Conference).
- Fully participate in all noted meetings and events, providing the student perspective.
- Prepare a report about the overall experience of being the Student Representative to the FelineVMA Board of Directors at the close of the term.
- Assist the Student Engagement Committee in screening applications for the next Student Representative to the FelineVMA Board.
- Promote the FelineVMA’s student outreach initiatives, including Student Chapters of the FelineVMA.
- Provide feedback and suggestions to FelineVMA Volunteers and Staff as needed.
