Educational Presentations (In-process Cat Friendly Practices)

November 2024

In Part Two of this presentation, Peter Karczmar, MD, asks: are cats a risk factor for asthma and/or allergies in humans? This section presents an overview of the latest research findings on the role that early exposure to cats plays in developing or preventing allergic diseases. Dr. Karczmar will explore the paradox that while cats carry allergens, their presence in a child’s life may decrease the likelihood of allergic sensitizations later on. The presentation will also highlight effective methods to reduce allergen exposure, ranging from environmental changes in the home to advances in medical therapy, offering a holistic approach for individuals living with cats.
