The American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) is committed to protecting the privacy of its members and other visitors to the website. To protect your privacy, the AAFP has implemented, and by your access to the website or providing your information to us, you are consenting to the information collection and use practices described in this Privacy Policy (“Policy”).

This Policy outlines our privacy practices regarding information collected by us, whether written, electronic, or oral, describes the types of data we collect, explains how we use and protect that data, and discloses our key procedures surrounding privacy. We may change this Privacy Policy from time to time by posting a new version here, and the new version will become effective immediately.


Collecting Personal Information

We collect a variety of information when you visit the Site and engage with our services. This information may identify you as an individual or is information that can be linked to you as an individual (“Personal Information”).

We are the sole owners of the information collected on this. We only have access to collect information that you voluntarily give us via email; membership and/or event registration; merchandise purchase; speaker, exhibitor, sponsor forms; or other direct contact from you. We will use your information to respond to you, regarding the reason you contacted us or filled out a form on the website. We will not share your information with any third party outside of our organization, other than as necessary to fulfill your request (e.g., to ship an order) or as stated in this Policy.

The Site may collect certain anonymous information about your visit as well as Personal Information, such as the name of the Internet service provider and the Internet Protocol (“IP”) address through which you access the Internet; the date and time you access the Site; the device type; the pages that you access while at the Site and the Internet address of the Web site from which you linked directly to our site. This information is used to help improve the Site, analyze trends, and administer the Site and is not sold or distributed in any other manner unless as stated in this Privacy Policy.

Individual Profile

We also collect information when you create an individual profile or other account on this website, which is required in order to access certain areas of this website, register for events, access services, and purchase products or memberships. This information includes your Personal Information. We use this information in accordance with this Policy to identify you, process your requests, and administer your individual membership profile.

Membership

In order to provide members with the benefits of such membership, personal information may be shared to enhance your experience and allow you to participate with other members. This can include your Personal Information (e.g., name, email, company or organization name) being included on the Member Directory, Find a Veterinarian or Cat Friendly Practice, or documentation in which you participate (e.g., guidelines, position statements, volunteered projects), which is posted on the Site. It may also include your personal information listed on group contact lists you sign up for which other members can access, as well as discussions in which you participate within those groups.

Event Registration

The AAFP may share your event registration data with third parties involved in the event process (e.g., hotel, badge software, or meeting facilities). Attendee lists are provided to exhibitors/sponsors that include your name, company, city, and state/country but will not be provided with your contact information (e.g., email, phone, and credit card information). Once your data has been shared with a third party, the AAFP no longer has direct control over that information.

Cat Friendly Practices®

In order to provide members who have been designated as a Cat Friendly Practice® the benefits of the program, personal information may be shared to enhance your experience and allow others to search for your practice online, both on catvets.com and catfriendly.com. The AAFP may share your name and practice information (name, organization name, address, city, state, ZIP, and country) with third parties including CFP Sponsors, Endorsers, and Supporters. Once your data has been shared with a third party, the AAFP no longer has direct control over that information.

Cat Friendly Certificate Program

The AAFP may share your name, practice information (name, organization name, address, city, state, ZIP, and country), and completion status with program sponsors. Once your data has been shared with a third party, the AAFP no longer has direct control over that information.


Use of Your Personal Information

The Personal Information voluntarily provided by you and collected on this website will be used to operate the website and to provide the service(s) or carry out the transaction(s) you have requested or authorized.

In support of these uses, the AAFP may use Personal Information to provide you with more effective customer service, to improve the website and any related AAFP services, and to make the website easier to use by eliminating the need for you to repeatedly enter the same information or by customizing the website to your particular preference or interests.

Unless you ask us not to, we may use your Personal Information to contact you via email and/or mail in the future to provide you with association news or information about membership, events services, products, and/or changes to this privacy policy. We may share your information with AAFP partners as described in this Policy so they may send you information about their products and services. The AAFP does not disclose credit card account information provided by its members and customers; rather, when members and customers choose to pay using their credit cards, the AAFP submits the information required to obtain payment to the appropriate clearinghouse.

The AAFP occasionally engages other companies, consultants, and contractors to provide limited services on its behalf, such as website hosting, mailing, email marketing, event registration, membership database, website development, publishing, and sending information about our products and other new services. We will only provide those companies the Personal Information they need to deliver the service. They are required to maintain the confidentiality of the information, comply with our Privacy Policy, and are prohibited from using that information for any other purpose. We may share aggregated demographic information with our partners, sponsors, and advertisers. In this situation, the information is not linked to any personal information that can identify any individual person.

The AAFP may disclose Personal Information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on AAFP or the website; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of the AAFP; or (c) act in urgent circumstances to protect the personal safety of AAFP members or affiliates, users of AAFP resources, or members of the public.

Personal Information collected on the Site may be stored, hosted, and processed in the United States or any other country in which the AAFP or its affiliates, subsidiaries, or agents maintain facilities, and by using the website, you consent to any such transfer of Personal Information outside of your country, including to countries outside of the European Union.

Please note that it may take up to 20 business days to be removed from our mail lists and 5 business days to be removed from email and phone lists. Unless you ask us not to, we may contact you via email or mail in the future to tell you about association news, membership, events, services, products, and/or changes to this Policy.

  • Change/correct any data we have about you.
  • Have us delete any data we have about you.

Security of Your Personal Information

The AAFP is committed to protecting the security of your Personal Information. For example, we store the Personal Information you provide on computer servers with limited access that are located in controlled facilities. Additionally, when we transmit sensitive Personal Information (such as a credit card account number) over the Internet, we protect it through the use of encryption, such as the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol. We restrict access to Personal Information to our employees, contractors, agents, and other third parties who need to know the information to operate, develop, or improve our services. We allow Members to access member lists and meeting materials, and event attendees to access event lists. We may share Personal Information with Board members and Co-chairs of the organization on an as-needed basis.

Unfortunately, no transmission of Personal Information over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Accordingly, and despite our efforts, the AAFP cannot guarantee or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us, or to or from our online services. The AAFP has no responsibility or liability for the security of information transmitted via the Internet. We retain your Personal Information for as long as your account is active or as required to provide you services, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
