- Graceland, the home of Elvis Presley, is the second most visited private home in the United States (the White House in Washington, D.C. holds the top honor)

- FedEx was founded in Memphis in 1971.
- Volney, the lion who roared at the beginning of all the old MGM movies, lived at the Memphis Zoo until his death in 1944.

- Shelby Farms, one of the largest urban parks in the entire United States, is located in Memphis and is 5x bigger than Central Park in NYC!
