Here is what we are Meowing about this Month

The stone tablet is left behind when vellum and papyrus offer portability. Paper and the printing press come along and the volume of information grows. Trees turn into pulp and the piles of paper on my desk threaten to topple daily. Digital media provide speed, savings and better utilization of natural resources. My bookshelves are full, but my Sony e-reader has room for 600 books and fits in my purse. Time marches on and technological advancement drives inexorable change.

We are all taking stock of precious resources and our association is embracing the change to electronic communication in 2010 to serve members as efficiently and as cost effectively as possible. An electronic newsletter offers so many advantages over print and yet, I am sad to see the glossy periodical relegated to the dustbin of history. On the other hand, I can imagine what my desk would look like if we were still using stone tablets.

World Rabies 2009 - September 28

Perhaps the oldest recognized infectious disease, and quite possibly the first
known disease transmissible from animals to people, rabies in humans can be
eliminated but still kills more than 55,000 people each year worldwide.

That's why veterinarians and public health officials are once again looking to World Rabies Day to help educate the public, and especially pet owners.
